My Groovy Mother-In-Law

Kate The Great

My husband is not a very expressive man when it comes to his emotions. He has a hard time saying what he really feels, especially if what he feels is kind of "mushy," tender, or close to his heart. In fact, sometimes when he feels the very most, it comes out the gruffest! This is certainly the case with his wonderful mother, my mother-in-law, and grandmother extraordinaire, Kate.
Kate is one of a kind. You have to know her to really know what I'm talking about, but if you are lucky enough to know her, you know exactly what I'm talking about!
She has the wonderful ability to look at the bright side of hope, even when life doesn't throw her tootsie rolls. She has wonderful knowledge through experience. She's wise, but she doesn't force her wisdom on you!
She makes me laugh. In fact, she makes everybody laugh. I love that she is straightforward and silly and loves to have fun, and that is what makes her so fun to be around. I love that she taught her children obedience and expects nothing less.
I love how much she loves the gospel. When I sit in the chair by the table she keeps the books she's studying, I think "what the heck, that's amazing!" She is beloved.
I love that she knows that kids are just going to be kids, and that they are welcome in her home, on her lap, and in her blocks.
I love that she values her son and supports him and encourages him. I love that even though she and I might do some things differently, and even though I might not always be just what she had in mind, she loves me and supports me and encourages me! She is my friend, my children's friend, and most importantly, my husband's friend. She has been the single most influential woman in his life, and he loves her with all of his heart. And I'm glad.
