Grandma's and Other Things.

Fatty McButter-Pants in the flesh!

Delectable, really.

Look at the little chicken hair growing in. Isn't that cute? Of course it's a little surprising, because we all thought Daddy was finally going to have a dark-haired beauty. But after the baldness has abated it's coming up a downy medium color, much as Olivia's did. In fact, she looks so much like Olivia did at this age I'm going to have to mark their pictures so I don't get confused when the dementia sets in.
Quite honestly, I think they both resemble adorable little bear cubs.
I describe the difference thusly:
Liv - Grizzly bear.
Kate - Panda bear.
Katelyn is also rocking a set of the darkest blue eyes I have ever seen. You just can't tell from this picture, so as her Mother, I felt a need to inform you. Because why wouldn't you want to know every single detail of my offspring? Of course you would!

A few days ago we were climbing out of the car and K.J. and I had the following conversation.

K.J. - Mom, is there a real place called ... uh... called Eur-ope?

Mom - There is a place called Europe, yep!

K.J. - Is it really a real place?

Mom - Yes, it's real. It's a continent, which means it's a huge piece of land.

K.J. - (sigh of happiness) Well, when you have me a little baby brother, or a baby that is a boy, I think we should name him Eur-ope!

I told him we would have to talk to his Dad about that one. It does have a nice ring to it, though. My son, Europe! Of course, you do need to take into consideration what would happen if little Europe was a bit on the hefty side. It would be cruel to be named after a land mass if you were in that situation.

Yesterday Olivia was really, really enjoying Sunday dinner. That makes me happy, because quite frankly, I am not Chef Boyardee. But Sunday dinner can be fun. Anyhow, she was chowing down on her mashed potatoes "yum -- mmmm -- yummmm" when she put down her fork and exclaimed "Mom, you are the bestest cooker ever!"

Needless to say, my day was made.

She also does this slurpy thing with her lizard tongue (truly the longest tongue in the world) when something is particularly tasty to her. She curls it in the middle and makes quick repeated slurpy noises. Actually, I guess it's a bit like Hannibal Lector, minus the cannibalism and the freakiness. It's actually really adorable.

Yesterday in church my friend Melissa (of Zumba champion fame) was the impromptu accompanist in Sacrament Meeting. For real, I've never quite seen anything like it. There was a lull, then suddenly she was walking up to the piano, sat down, and rocked out to something along the lines of "The Sabbath Breaks." I was more then impressed. I was... amazed! What a gal. What a gal.

Anyhow, I just thought that was a cool story. So I shared. Because I can. Amen.

Recently it seems I have been putting my foot in my mouth even more then usual. (How is this possible, you ask? The Double B does, too. He is constantly amazed at my shenanigans.) I just keep saying what I think, regardless of whether that is the wise thing to do or not. I don't know why I do it. I just do. I say what I think and then assume everyone knows my intentions are golden. And strangely, not everyone knows just how golden my intentions really are. They're like 24k, man! So if you have recently been slayed by my stupidity, I apologize. I just... keep... saying... what... I... think. It's a problem. Really. The other night me and the Double B talked like this about it:

Double B - Why did you do that?

Me - I don't know!

Double B - Hm.

Me - How do I keep getting myself into these situations?

Double B - I don't know.

Me - Don't you sort of feel sorry for me, though?

Double B - Sort of.

We're actually heading up to Salt Lake tonight. The Double B's wonderful, awesome, amazing Grandma passed away on Friday at 96 years old. Her funeral is tomorrow. She was such a groovy lady! Actually, I've never met anyone else like her in my whole life. The first time I spent time with her she told me "Don't tell Ben I'm the damn-it Grandma," which of course, endeared her to me forever. She truly understood how to enjoy life and not take things so seriously, something I could certainly learn from. And even though she was anxious and ready to move on, we will miss her and we love her. The Double B is happy she is out of pain and can go rest and relax now, but he is so thankful to have had her as his very special Grandma.

Grandma's are the best, man. I love them. I love them all.

I'm sorry for you and Ben. It's truly painful to lose a grandparent. Even your spouse's grandparents, because they become your own.

Livi does in fact have the longest tongue I have ever seen. Sometimes I find myself just staring at her tongue because it mystifies me! Quite funny!

Funny thing with the piano playing. They called me to play as we were pulling into the parking lot. The time was 10:57. If that ain't cutting it close, I don't know what is. I'm glad you enjoyed my crappy renditions of whatever songs I played.
