Jill Vs. The Volcano

This is my Mom.
Isn't she pretty?

My Mother -- woman you gave me life -- who nurtured me and listen to me blabblabblab -- who has reached the title of "Jill the Great," sort of like one of her Viking ancestors -- got stuck in an elevator yesterday.
Yes, it is true.
It was probably the most exciting fifteen minutes of her recent life. I don't know if she'll agree with that sentence, but after the horror fades, I think it'll be like a badge of honor.
And I am sorry to say, when she called me yesterday to inform me of this event we all fear on a deep primal level, I laughed my head off. I do not remember the last time I laughed so hard.
Not because of her misfortune, of course, but she just told it so darn funny. I will always chuckle picturing her between floors in her office, pounding on the door and calling for help and then sitting on the floor next to two gallons of milk waiting for the repair man as different partners in her office called up reassurances to her.
You are a Champion, Mom.
I can only imagine how I would have handled that. Not with anywhere close to that amount of cucumber coolness! My favorite part of her telling the story is when she said "Good thing there was a light in there, or they would have found me hanging naked from the ceiling." Hehe. See? Isn't she funny?
To close this tribute to my Mothers Elevator Greatness and this account preserved for future generations, I will include this email sent around her office by the firm manager. I asked her to forward it to me so I could share it with you. It is just begging to be shared:

We want to welcome Jill back from her trip. She just returned after being gone for 10 minutes..
She went to floor 1.33 in our building… the sad thing is we don’t have a floor 1.33 so we had her extricated by our local Otis repair man.
No harm no foul, I told her I wasn’t going to pay her for messing around on the Elevator during work.
Glad she is back.

Your mother has lived one of my worst nightmares.

And she looks WAY too young to be your mother. Not that you're old...that came out all wrong.

That was a great story. I love your mother. Thanks for sharing. I'm glad it was only 15 min. and she at least had supportive coworkers to talk to her. I think if it was me and I was alone I would just be enjoying the quiet moment!!

Oh how crazy!!! Paul and I watched a documentary on people getting stuck in elevators just a few months ago. 10-15 minutes is relatively short compared to some, but I'm sure it felt like days... I wonder if your mom will take the stairs from now on? :)
