Quirks

Last night K.J., Liv and I went over to my parents for our usual Sunday evening visit. My two brothers in the area come and their families and it's just a good old fashioned get-together. Similar to when I was a child and we'd go to my Grandma's every Sunday and have fun with whatever cousin group was there for the evening.
Last night the Double B wouldn't go. Do you want to know why? THE OLYMPICS. My husband, one of the best men I know, good and kind, surprisingly old-manish for his age, absolutely willing to do anything for anyone (literally), hates the Olympics. His exact quote: "You'd better just go without me, because you'll all just be watching the Olympics and I'll be bored for three hours." I suggested a game? But no. We would be distracted by those diabolical games.
Don't you think that's interesting?
I know I do.
Apparently the human spirit is repulsive?
I just don't get it.
And yes indeedy, we sat and watched the Olympics for three hours. I screamed at the television during the swimming relay, yelling for them to swim FASTER, FASTER!!! But all to no avail. I mean, you can't feel bad about a silver, right? But it should have been gold. That guy from France has super powers. And not for the good guys. I'm not sure you can be a superhero from France. I mean, I remember how mean they were during the beginning of the Iraq conflict.
And I've held a grudge ever since.
Isn't it interesting that there seems to be a mutual distaste between the French and United Statesians? I think they don't like our cowboy hats. I know I don't like their berets.
I don't know if these differences can be overcome.
I'm just glad that we're practically dating the U.K.
We like them, they like us.
We're friends.
They've brought us Fish and Chips and The Beatles.
We've brought them... something else... valuable.
Back to the Double B.
He also doesn't willingly take couple or family pictures.
Remember this little gem?:
Practically had to sell my soul to get it.
Actually, it was our anniversary and I batted my eyes. So he relented graciously.
That is why this picture is worth it's weight in pixels.
Getting a family picture is like pulling molars without novacaine.

I like tattling on the Double B. It's very enjoyable.

Yesterday I had the whole sharing time as primary music leader, so we did the Primary Music Olympics. It was pretty wild and pretty fun. It never ceases to amaze me how different junior and senior primary are -- two totally different animals. Usually I feel like I succeed more in junior primary, but this week I was amazed at how captivated senior primary was. I'm going to have to give this some thought and work along this vein, I think. My kids and my nieces and nephew have given me an enthusiastic thumbs up, so that is very good. In fact, my niece Addie is still wearing her medal today. That is the savor of sweet success.

School starts in two and a half weeks -- the horror! It's been a great summer with all my chickens at home. And... gulp... Olivia is starting Kindergarten. Too horrible for words. I don't do well when my children start school. It feels rotten. But that's all yet to come, and she's going to love it, so that will make it all worth it. In the meantime, I do believe I'll enjoy the rest of our long days of summer. It's been such an adventurous one. But a good one.

That's all for now, folks. Good day! I said Good Day!

Thanks for the blog Marie I love to read about your days and just how everyone has imperfect days! Thanks for making us all smile and keep putting one foot in front of the other dealing with the bad and enjoying and cherishing the good.

Olivia is starting Kindergarten? Chancho is starting Kindergarten, too, and I hate it. But I sort of love it because he's kinda a loud kid and I'm looking forward to the peace.

I bet you are an awesome Primary music leader. Reading this makes me miss my calling. And somehow it reminded me of how exhausting it can be.

I don't care for berets, either, but I appreciate the French for their French toast.

School starts in 15 days... ugh!

rieser please let ben know i am in love with the olympics. if i didn't have children i would sit and watch them all day long. you can also let him know though that ryan thinks the olympics are so "overrated". not sure how he feels that way. human beings give up their lives to become great. i think it's amazing! want to come to your sunday gathering sometime. i'll work on that.

and i have the thought of school starting too. not even sure when it starts but am not prepared for such an event in any way. i need to start preparing.

love yah rie!
