Swimming While Fully Clothed

Last weekend we found the most beautiful place on Earth. Okay, fine. In Missouri.
We drove out to join our dear friends Bev and Matt and their kids. They were camping and invited us out to roast marshmallows and visit, and it was a blast. On the way, we drove through Mecca. The Double B and I could both build a house there and never move again, it is so peaceful and beautiful.
Unfortunately, about twenty minutes into our adventure, the older kids ran ahead of Bev and I to get to the water and they... GOT IN... the water. The fact that they were having a BLAST is not unfortunate, that is awesome. The fact that we didn't have any dry clothes for them was, though! Thankfully, there was enough in the tent to scrounge up something suitable for all offenders. (This is exactly the kind of thing I did growing up... for me it was more as a teenager, though. They are getting an early start!)
Katelyn COULD NOT BELIEVE we wouldn't let her get in the water, too.
Seriously. Is it wrong that this is one of my favorite pictures of all time?

She did enjoy the mud, though.
Mommy took a turn cleaning her off, but let's face it -- Daddy is much more creative and effective in these sorts of situations.
Plus, he's such a dream boat!
It was a marvelous night. We are so, so thankful for this family that has swooped in to save us!
Today is the last day of school. YAY! SUMMER!!! Of course, it's raining cats and dogs, but who cares! SCHOOL IS OUT!!! This was the most exciting time growing up, remember? Summer -- a mythical thing where amazing things could happen. I loved it and still do. I am excited to have my kids to myself, long and slow days, and a trip home! Lots of things to look forward to.

Rumble, rumble, rumble. Hear that thunder? You don't hear it? ...Weird.
