Popcorn was popping yesterday for my birthday. It was such a beautiful day, the sun was bright and the sky was blue and it was a perfectly beautiful spring day.
The Double B made me breakfast in bed and we spent the whole morning loitering. As a person who has broken up with their bed and is now pretty darn strict about it, yesterday I got to hang out there with no regrets. It was fun. Donuts for lunch, as one should.
After lunch I checked my email and Katelyn had sent me this email. It absolutely meant the world to me and melted me into a gigantic puddle of goo! This girl knows the way to my heart:

Alright so I had a gift and it "mysteriously" disappeared. I don't wanna give anime spoilers but Benson may have been the reason (actually I hope you were the thief so maybe you could've gotten your birthday gift)Anyways I thought my broke booty could think of something that didn't involve stealing Nora's money so in English I brainstormed and this is what I came up with which I hope can make up for it!!
1. You cook food for me even though you don't like cooking
2. Remind me to take care of myself which is nice because sometimes there's bad days y'know being forced into that stinks at the time but it shows how you care about me
3. You let your uterus stretch to the size of a watermelon so I could be here not to get graphic but I appreciate it that's hard work
4. Church tickle man that thing is the bestttt

6. that time you bought a bunch of ice cream that was wonderful 10/10

I heard from a lot of people that I love yesterday, and it meant a lot to me. I'm so lucky to have family and friends that watch out for me and build me up.
This is what I wrote on social media. I really wanted to share my appreciation. "Today is my 40th birthday. I feel SO THANKFUL. I wanted to say thank you to you. Thank you for being my family, thank you for being my friends. Thank you for every kindness and for all the laughter and for so much fun. Thank you for being so generous to me and for your mercy towards me. Thank you for so many happy memories and for building me up and for teaching me and for playing with me. You have impacted my life. You have made all the difference. Thank you forever!! I'm so lucky. And I really, really just wanted to say thanks."
My friend Holly dropped by in the afternoon with some treats and the very cutest gift... a custom playlist! She carefully compiled the Top 40 from 1983 into a playlist, just for me. How adorable is that.
The family piled in the van to go buy a new tent from Costco (I gave our current tent to The Double B as a wedding present. It wasn't going to survive one more summer, so we picked a milestone event to replace it with. Then we went to In N Out because we're very classy people and it's my favorite burger. We got shakes and everything. Then we came home and opened presents, carefully selected with the things I love (music) and the projects I'm working on (cricut). Everybody said something they love about me and it made me feel so grateful for these humans.
One of my presents was Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, since we have to be prepared for the new one coming out this year! Benson and I both love that movie, and he really wanted to watch it, so that's what he and I did. It was great.
In the evening a phone number called that looked familiar, but I didn't know who it was. I decided to answer, and the voice on the other end said "Is this Marie?! This is Brother Hicken and Elaine!" It was my Bishop from fifteen years ago, that called me to be the young women's president, and his family!! They saw on Facebook that I was turning 40, and they just couldn't believe that because when they first knew me I was 25. So they wanted to call and tell me that they love me and keep track of us and to wish me the happiest birthday. I could not believe it. My heart was so touched!! She said that she wanted to thank me for all the good I have done and all that I am doing. He told me that I am still one of his very favorite humans ever. They said the whole family had gathered for their sons birthday, so they decided to call me and everybody wanted to listen in together. Honestly. I couldn't believe that level of kindness. It meant the world to me. It really, really did. That Bishop had a tremendous impact on my spiritual confidence, and I just really love their family. What a kindness.
I might be one of the luckiest people in the world. And now I'm 40, so I'm qualified to give anyone on earth advice and honestly they kinda have to listen. I have the numbers to back me up. I even used that line in earnest via text last night after a whole day of joking about it. My exact quote: "But I'm 40 now, so you should listen to me when I say: you deserve every good thing." That was true for the person I was texting and it's true for you, too. I love you a lot. Thanks for everything.
I woke up today with an aching knee and hip, and tonight I plucked my whiskers that are hoping to grow into a full blown beard some day and my white eyebrows that are multiplying all the time. It's good to be 40.
