Memorial Day

Happy Memorial day to one and all. We've had a really nice day. Dad was off because this is one of the big 6 holidays that Costco takes off. He planned a big feast for us and executed almost all of it himself! Delicious steak, cheesy potatoes, homemade rolls, watermelon, and angel food cake. Wow. It was really delicious. After he made the frosting for the cake (the B's frost their angel food cake, which we all know is insane but we love them anyway) he took the whisk to Liv so that she could enjoy the extra frosting. Then he came in and got me because she was so cute, so I snuck around the corner and she was, indeed, adorable. So I snuck a picture.
When we sat down for dinner Liv gave us a really excellent roast when she said "now let's go around the table and everyone can tell us their favorite war or battle." We like to go around the table for birthdays and holidays to tell our favorite thing about the people we love. So she had a real humdinger today. At the end of the meal I asked her which was her favorite and she said "the French revolution." This kid.
Dad put on some patriotic music and Benson got super into it. He got right up from the table to get his Captain America shield and marched all around. A little later he was doing a very epic lip sync to God Bless the USA. What a guy.
After dinner I got a wonderful hug from Kate the Great. As we were holding onto each other, Benny came and wrapped his arms around us. Kate said to him "I thought you tried to murder me earlier?" Benson quickly answered "Oh, I will again. Right after this hug!"
Parenting. So great.
The kids and I have been watching a cute series the last couple of days on Disney+ called American Born Chinese and we finished it tonight. It's a cute kids show that grown ups can enjoy, too, and it ended with a great line that had us all busting up laughing. Then we went and got an ice cream to finish the holiday with a bang.
I listened to a podcast about the supreme court earlier and pondered our rights and freedoms and know for sure that they are not without great cost. I'm thankful to be born in a good land and to be a citizen of the United States of America. I always hope for her.
