Election Night and Birth Day

Today is a big day.
First and foremost, nine years ago at this time, I was in the hospital, getting all ready to bring my first child into this world. K.J. was born at 9:25 that night. He has been my joy and sunlight from the very first moment, he has brought so much light into my life, he has been total happiness for me. So thanks, K.J., thanks so very much for being born.

Last night didn't go the way I'd hoped. As you know, I don't belong to a political party, but I did believe in Mitt Romney and I was so disappointed that he didn't win the election. As in, deep down disappointed. I don't hate President Obama, not by any means, but I'm worried about us as a nation. I'm worried that we are so divided and that we are blurring the lines of morality and faith and goodness. But I believe in the scriptures where it tells of how the Lord will preserve a people for the sake of the righteous, when they pray and do not doubt, when they obey his commandments. I just believe that now, more then ever, it is so important to be willing to stand up for what is right and good, even if it is not popular. And to be kind, kind, kind. Always so kind to everyone, whether they have the same ideals you have or not.

So I was sitting there in front of the computer, feeling blue, when I got a text message from the Double B. It came at 11:10 p.m. It said "are you awake?" I answered "yes, my darling," very surprised that HE was, since he is an hour ahead of us and works so hard he usually crashed pretty early out there. Two minutes later I got the following text: "I was wondering if you could go on the porch. My Mom dropped off a present for Kaje's birthday from me, and she thought maybe you'd be in bed. I just want to make sure you get it."
So I got up, walked to the door and opening it, looking down. And there were two feet. Attached to this body:
The Double B has surprised me many, many times in my life but I have NEVER been this surprised by anything. Shocked. Astounded.
He made big sneaky plans to be home for K.J.'s birthday. He worked all day, got paperwork figured out and turned in for our home loan, got on an airplane and flew for two and a half hours, drove two more, and showed up on our door at just the right moment.
I simply couldn't believe it. And I'm not going to lie, I had to work pretty darn hard to hold it together. And I succeeded about half way.
So our family is together again until tomorrow afternoon! Happy day! And then only a few more weeks until we're together for good, but that is exciting news for another post.
As you can imagine, the kids were SHOCKED this morning. And so, so, so, so HAPPY!!!

HAPPY 9TH BIRTHDAY, K.J. MCFREDDY-PANTS!!!
It's a Birthday to remember, that's for sure.

What a GREAT surprise! And to think I was about to commiserate with you in your husbandlessness. Mine is in Texas until the 14th. LAME. Glad you got your husband back for a while, though. And happy birthday K.J.!

I'm with you on the election. Just overwhelmingly disappointed. That's all. I guess prayer is my only option at this point. :)
